He says the superintendent tells them they have crunched the numbers and there is going to be people laid off at the mine site, specifically, labour hire workers. It s June 2020 and they are given assurances that it probably won t happen for three months or so. Mr Guinea speaks up, asking the superintendent if fly-in-fly-out workers would be told they had lost their job before they flew home. This way they could collect their work boots and clothes before they left.

The price of rental housing in Mackay has increased a whopping 12.5 per cent over the past 12 months, new figures show.
It comes as a national housing campaign, Everybodyâs Home, has called for an urgent investment in social housing to combat the rental affordability crisis in Queensland.
Everybodyâs Home national spokeswoman Kate Colvin said this crisis was fuelling a rise in youth homelessness.
âYoung people who are forced to leave their homes, or are left without homes through no fault of their own, cannot simply get a job that pays them enough to afford adequate accommodation,â Ms Colvin said.

The document uses data from the National Greenhouse Gas Inventory by Economic Sector report, along with industry employment data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, to estimate how many jobs would be put at risk from a net zero emissions target. It claimed that up to 653,600 jobs would be directly in the firing line from a net zero emissions target.
