A program in Fort Smith got started Tuesday that will help thousands of local children who are at risk of being food insecure through the summer months.
The Summer Picnic Baskets for Kids by Antioch for Youth & Family is expected to help over 3,000 families and is supported by an anonymous $50,000 grant through Feeding America and the River Valley Regional Food Bank. A survey is part of the program that will help measure the success of the program.
The anonymous donor to Feeding America set up a national program to assure at-risk children are food secure through the summer months. Through it, the River Valley Regional Food Bank in Fort Smith established the $50,000 grant to Antioch for Youth & Family to carry out the donor s wishes. Backpacks with food will be delivered to Fort Smith public schools starting this week.

PreK Classrooms will be closed a Morrison Elementary and PreK students will complete AMI packets on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Kindergarten through 6th grade will learn virtually for the remainder of the week.
