A teacher charged with sexually assaulting a toddler rejected a plea offer that would send him to prison for a minimum of three years.
Thomas Meier faces up to 10 years in state prison if found guilty of the charges of sexually assaulting a 3-year-old at the Head Start Community Program of Morris County.
Meier s attorney, Paul Faugno, on Tuesday said his client would reject the state s plea offer.
During the virtual hearing, Assistant Prosecutor Reema Sethi Kareer said the offer will stand until Meier s next court date. The deal calls for him to plead guilty to second-degree endangerment of the welfare of a child that will be treated as a third-degree charge at sentencing with a maximum prison sentence of five years.
