today, oil prices are actually down. it is not helping the market as much as you might expect. cnbc becky quick joins us. good morning savannah and chuck. we ve been watching oil prices because that s the one thing traders have been saying for weeks, if oil prices would come down, we would see stocks higher. oil prices are down by over a dollar and stocks look like they will open sharply lower, looks like they may open down more than 100 points, the weakest we have seen in quite some time. if you ask me why oil prices are moving lower while you hear news from libya, i have to say take a step back because we can t figure out what s happening. i can tell you there s concerning news around the globe and having a big impact on stock prices today. overnight, china came out with trade numbers weaker than expected and that has people concerned the country that has been the growth engine for the rest of the planet could be slowing down a little bit.
markets? for a preview of what s ahead in wall street, we get to becky quick. good morning. good morning savannah and chuck. looks like the futures indicating a stronger open on wall street. like we re up for the dow futures by 20 points above fair value after we have good news on the jobs front. out with the weekly jobless claims. down by 3,000, not a big drop, down to 420,000. lowest level weeb we ve seen, second low et seen this whole year. the trend is going in the right direction as three weeks in a row we ve seen lower numbers coming in. a lot of people hopeful maybe we re getting at the point to chip away at unemployment. numbers today on housing. a mixed bag. new home starts out up by 3.9%. permits down by 4%. permits give a lot of indication about what s to come over the next few months. fedex out with numbers that were a little disappointing. right now futures down, at least it looks like opening shares down 2% but gave good news, too. let me tell you quickly. fedex said th
