Dr. Ken Morgan | 2/26/2021, 6 a.m. Amazon not prime for Black Bessemer, Alabama workers Courtesy Photo On February 20, 2021, the Metropolitan Baltimore community formed a caravan of cars to demonstrate solidarity with the Bessemer, Alabama Amazon workers just outside of the Dundalk Distribution warehouse with signs on their cars read “Support the Amazon workers,’ and Solidarity with the Bessemer workers. The Baltimore People’s Power Assembly and the UJIMA Political Progress Party— a Black independent political party attempting to obtain Maryland ballot status— organized the Baltimore event. The Bessemer workers are currently voting to unionize and create collective bargaining rights with the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) until March 9, 2021. Over 50 actions took place around the country on February 20.

The majority Black workforce in Bessemer is challenging the world’s richest human, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, in their fight to be recognized by the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU).  Bezos is so desperate to bust the union drive, he is illegally offering workers $2,000 to $3,000 “resignation bonuses.”  Speaking in East New York, part of Brooklyn, N.Y., outside an Amazon fulfillment center, Omowale Clay from the D12 Movement said: “A yes vote for the union will be a mighty blow against Amazon. A win in Bessemer will be a shot in the arm to organized labor, which will be heard around the world!”

Morgan, Lewis & Bockius announced Wednesday that it will be dropping former President Donald Trump and the Trump Organization as tax clients. “We have had a limited representation of the Trump Organization and Donald Trump in tax-related matters,” a Morgan Lewis spokeswoman told Law.com, Bloomberg Law and Thomson Reuters Legal. “For those matters not already concluded, we are transitioning as appropriate to other counsel.” Law360 reports on one ongoing matter a probe seeking information on whether the Trump Organization inflated the value of property donated for a conservation easement to claim a higher tax deduction.
