In box office news that isnât related to
Godzilla Vs. Kong ($80.5 million domestic and $390 million worldwide), Warner Bros.â next would-be theatrical savior (relatively speaking) continued its slow global roll.
Mortal Kombat, an over/under $95 million R-rated adaptation of the popular and long-running video game series, earned another $5.7 million from 6,128 screens in 28 markets. That brings its global cume to $19.2 million, including $9.6 million in Russia. The James Wan-produced and Simon McQuoid-directed action fantasy opens in North America this Friday, and it damn-well better contain both babalities and friendships! Donât save that gold for the sequel, give the fans what they want in the first movie!

Godzilla Vs. Kong topped yet again, earning $2.075 million (-47%) to bring its 17-day cume up to $74.885 million. That positions Warner Bros.â MonsterVerse sequel for a $7.43 million (-46%) third-weekend gross and an $80.24 million 19-day cume. Thatâs also a drop right in line with
Godzilla: King of the Monsters (-43% after a much larger 67% second-weekend drop) and
G.I. Joe: Retaliation (-48% after a 47% second-weekend drop).
