Seven years ago, Nelson and Sarah Phero and their five children were living on an acre lot in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and yearning to buy a farm.
âBut land is so high in that area, we could not afford one,â Nelson said. They looked around and found they could get a 30-acre farm on good land in Bedford County for the price of their home in Lancaster.
Their new home is located in a National Heritage Agricultural District. Their goal at the new farm property is to have a diversified and sustainable farm using traditional as well as modern methods and tools.
