A video has emerged on social media of a man being assaulted by a group in the Katghar police station in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad district.
The victim, Mohammed Shakir, was assaulted by a person, identified as Manoj Thakur, and others on Sunday afternoon. Shakir works in the business of transporting and selling meat, according to NDTV.
In a written complaint, Shakir’s brother said that he was harassed and then beaten up for carrying 50 kilograms of buffalo meat on his scooter. The complaint also mentions that the vigilantes demanded Rs 50,000 from Shakir and then assaulted him.

LUCKNOW: Acting on a complaint by a local journalist, the Moradabad Police has registered an FIR against the Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and 20 unidentified party leaders and workers who had allegedly heckled the media persons during a press conference in the district on March 11.
The FIR has been lodged under Sections 147 (rioting), 342 (wrongful confinement), and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC against the SP chief and 20 others at Paakbada Police Station in Moradabad after local journalist association president Dr. Awadhesh Parashar gave a complaint to the SSP.

BAREILLY: Moradabad police on Saturday lodged an FIR against former UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and as many as 20 Samajwadi Party workers on Saturday.
The FIR is related to an incident where journalists and media persons were allegedly manhandled and later thrashed by Yadav’s security personnel and his party workers during a press conference in Pakhwara area of Moradabad, on Thursday.
Meanwhile, a cross FIR was also registered under six IPC sections, by Moradabad police based on a complaint registered by Samajwadi Party district chief Jaiveer Singh Yadav, against two journalists. Police said that a case has been registered and a probe has been ordered.
