one chair saying, i would vote for judge moore because i wouldn t want to vote for doug. doug jones, the democrat running against him. another says, even if the allegations are true, moore should become a senator, because, quote other, than being with an underage person, he didn t really force himself. let s get something clear off the top. people can debate the ethics of that particular claim but it is wrong under the law. the alabama party official who made that claim, riley, wrongly argued that moore didn t force himself and thus had consent from the 14-year-old. 14 years old is below the age of consent and that means the child legally cannot consent with any sexual contact with an adult. the age does vary by state. here is a state where it is illegal to have sexual contact
sources here. that doesn t happen overnight. why the suspicion? well, roy moore has faced other election days, chris. you re absolutely right that when an election comes around, you typically see these allegations come out, but roy moore just had a pretty significant election against luther strange. we didn t learn these things then. we also didn t learn them in any of the other three statewide campaigns that judge moore was involved in so i think we ve got to take that into account for context. that doesn t mean we shouldn t believe these women, it doesn t mean they re not telling the truth, it doesn t mean judge moore didn t commit the offenses he s accused of, it s just important for context and evaluating things. women don t want to come forward either and one of the reasons is because their veracity is questioned when they do. now, do false accusations exist? yes, but they are very, very rare. if you look at it statistically chris, we can t live in a world where the accusa
