Lady Devils 10U softball champions recognized at Moody council meeting

Photo: Nathan Prewett. “We’re honored to have the state champions with us tonight,” Moody Mayor Joe Lee said to applause. “It’s not often that we get to recognize so many of our young folks and we’re proud of you.” The team was present at the meeting with their coach, Ashley Davison, along with coaches Daniel Bowman, Adam Butner, Kevin Butner, Will Griffith and Jacob Davison. A presentation was made by council members Nick Rutledge and Lynn Taylor recognizing the team for their achievement.

Moody to apply for grant for water system improvements

By Nathan Prewett MOODY – At a regular meeting of the Moody City Council on July 12, a resolution was passed to apply for a grant from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) to conduct water system improvements for two companies in the city. Moody City Hall The council heard monthly reports from department heads, including the police and fire chiefs. Police Chief Thomas Hunt reported that for the month of June there were 1,285 calls, 29 arrests, 120 warning tickets, 200 total citations, 93 reports, 48 misdemeanors, 40 felonies and 16,287 miles were driven. For the month of June, Fire Chief Larry Horton reported that there were 212 total responses, three fires (two residential and one woods, grass or rubbish), 31 lift assists, 11 vehicle wrecks, 22 false alarms and one mutual aid. The average dispatch to enroute time was one minute, 16 seconds and dispatch to arrival time was 6 minutes and 31 seconds.

Moody Council accepts garbage bid, discusses city beautification

By Nathan Prewett MOODY Moody City Council met on Monday, June 28 for a brief regular meeting where they accepted a new garbage management bid, followed by a work session in which they discussed potentially beginning a citywide cleanup and beautification effort. During the regular meeting, the council approved several requests by Fire Chief Larry Horton before moving on to accepting the low bid from Waste Management on residential garbage pickup. Pickup will occur once per week as it was with the previous company, Advanced Disposal. It was not known yet which day of the week collections will be made. For limb pickup, residents will have to call in and get on a list 24 hours before collection instead of 48 hours with Advanced Disposal. Paying customers will receive two dump passes per year in April and October. The monthly fee is $16.12 per customer.
