Chattanooga Hamilton County NAACP Branch Holds Virtual Webinar-Mayoral Forum For 6 Candidates Tuesday, January 26, 2021
Local Branch President Ann Pierre said, “we are extremely excited to host the first of two forums for the large field of candidates for Mayor of Chattanooga, Tennessee.” The community is invited to post their questions for the candidates during the forum, which will be selected and answered after the prepared questions.
Additional forums for City Council candidates and the remaining field of mayoral candidates are scheduled weekly until all candidates are presented prior to early voting February 10 thru 25, 2021. The individual participants of the first mayoral forum are: Monty Bruell, Christopher Dahl, Wade Hinton, Tim Kelly, Erskine Olgesby, Jr. and Kim White.
Monty Bruell Pioneers Chattanooga As Venue For International Wakeboarding Tour Wednesday, January 20, 2021
Chattanooga may secure a multi-year commitment as a venue for a professional wakeboarding competition circuit taking place this upcoming summer.
Mayoral candidate Monty Bruell invited Supra Boats Wakeboard Tour to visit Chattanooga Tuesday afternoon in an effort to create economic opportunities utilizing downtown’s natural resources.
“We have almost 20 miles of the Tennessee River flowing right through the middle of town,” Mr. Bruell said. “Very few cities can compete with Chattanooga, because our downtown has such convenient access to water.”
Organizers of the wakesurf competition examined Chattanooga’s riverfront by boat to test the quality of the wake. The Chattanooga Sports Commission was present to discuss a potential partnership and expand the city’s current sports tourism offering.

Tennessee-based ChangeTN announced its first endorsements of the 2021 election cycle, starting with the Chattanooga municipal races.
ChangeTN endorsed Tim Gorman for District 2, Dennis Clark for District 5, Raquetta Dotley for District 7, Marie Mott for District 8, incumbent Demetrus Coonrod for District 9, and Monty Bruell for mayor.
According to ChangeTN co-founder, Drew Dison, “These candidates represent a diverse coalition for Chattanooga that will fight for progressive changes to make this city a better place for all. And with a poverty rate of 35 percent, three times higher than the national average according to a U.S. Census report published in September of 2020, part of improving the city begins with economic recovery.
