Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) is giving $6 million to community organizations that help homeless veterans, including Montreal s Old Brewery Mission, which said veterans make up about five per cent of the homeless population.

Known as a “wet shelter,” the new service opened this spring. It was established by the Old Brewery Mission in partnership with the regional health authority. To get into this one, users must meet specific criteria, like having failed treatment for alcohol addiction.
