Service on the Metro's Green Line was back Tuesday morning after the discovery of cracks on Monday had forced a portion of the underground subway to close.
Montreal Metro's Green line is closed between Lionel-Groulx and Frontenac stations for an indefinite period, after a water leak led engineers to detect cracks in the vaulted ceiling between Berri-UQAM and St-Laurent stations, the STM said.
Normal Montreal metro service resumed Tuesday morning after the discovery of cracks in the tunnel between Berri-UQAM and Saint-Laurent stations led the STM to shut down a huge swath of the green line Monday afternoon. The STM says it made the decision to reopen after experts determined the cracks in the concrete are "superficial" and that "the integrity of the [tunnel] vault is not in question," the transit company said in a statement.
Quebec City is set to get 34 modern, flashy trams for its new 19.3-kilometre tramway. The city has awarded a CA$1.34 billion contract to French company Alstom for the production and maintenance of the vehicles. The company will design and assemble them in Quebec.
