Reform Party candidate pledges to bring back Montgomeryshire County Council

Oliver Lewis A Powys-based candidate for the Senedd elections has called for the reintroduction of a standalone council for Montgomeryshire. Oliver Lewis, from Montgomery, will be standing for the Reform Party in the forthcoming elections, and has now published his ambitions should he be elected. In Montgomeryshire, Oliver has three priorities. He says he will campaign for the abolition of Powys County Council and the restoration of a Council for Montgomeryshire, abolished by the Conservatives in 1996. He will also campaign for a brand-new General Hospital for the county at Newtown, to include both an AandE Unit and Maternity facilities. And he has pledged to campaign for two new railway stations at Carno and Abermule, as well as improvements to the A458 to make it safer for motorists and residents.

Powys Council to hand Neuadd Maldwyn to housing association

THE ownership of Neuadd Maldwyn in Welshpool is set to be transferred to Clwyd Alyn housing association. Powys County Council’s (PCC) Independent/Conservative cabinet approved the transfer of ownership at its meeting on Tuesday, January 26. It follows a mammoth and at times fractious planning committee meeting which took over three hours to discuss the application on Friday, January 22, The £11.6 million plans by Clwyd Alyn to change the former Montgomeryshire Council headquarters into a 66 apartment Extra Care facility for older people was approved. But the the planning approval as well as the deeds transfer is reliant on the Welsh Government, which is considering calling the proposal in for them to decide the scheme.
