Plane crash sparks wildland fire off Highway 68 in Monterey County A small plane crashed into a Monterey County home Tuesday morning, causing a fire and damage to the structure and nearby wildlands.  The crash was reported just after 10:45 a.m. near Highway 68 in the Monterra Ranch subdivision. The home the plane crashed into caught on fire, which spread to the surrounding wildlands, Monterey County Regional Fire Department officials said.  The incident pulled resources from across Monterey County, including Monterey and Seaside fire departments and Cal Fire. Four engines headed out to the scene already, and another three have been requested.

Monterey County flash flood warning issued, mudslides reported

Updated story 9:47 p.m. Wednesday: Parts of Highway 101 are closed, including in Salinas, because of flooding.  Southbound Highway 101 is closed at the Airport Boulevard ramp in South Salinas, according to the California Highway Patrol.  Northbound Highway 101 is closed at the 5th Street ramp in Gonzales.  The CHP reported typical detours, such as Old Stage Road, were flooded as well.  Updated story 8:10 p.m. Wednesday: Flash flood warnings have been extended until late Wednesday night as heavy rain falls on burn scars in Monterey County.  The National Weather Service has extended its warnings for the Carmel, Dolan and River fires burn areas after reports of heavy rain.
