"Gardening by walking around is among our recommended practices; it builds upon the business practice of managing by walking around (which should be a productive activity)," writes columnist Tom Karwin. "Walking the garden generally has two principal results: appreciating plants in bloom, and noticing projects that need attention."
"The Monterey Bay Area Cactus and Succulent Society’s 2023 Fall Show and Sale will be held from 3-6 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday," writes Tom Karwin. "Other garden plant societies typically hold separate shows and sales each year. The shows are scheduled when the plants are at peak bloom, and the sales occur in the later season when the plants are ready to be divided and planted."
"In May 2023, the Assembly passed Assembly Bill 1573, a bill introduced by Assemblymember Laura Friedman (D-Burbank) aimed at replacing non-functional turf with water-conserving California native plants for commercial and public landscaping projects," Tom Karwin writes. "AB 1573 would be the first bill of its kind to create a requirement for the use of California native plants. "
