The Chevrolet Impala was used by convicted murderer Duane Earl Pope as a getaway vehicle during a deadly bank robbery in Nebraska in 1965.
Pope rented the car from a Hertz in Salina, Kan., with $50 he borrowed from his father. The recent McPherson College graduate said he was heading to Oklahoma to look for work.

The late LaMonte ‘Monte’ Hollertz first housed his collection in an old skating rink before moving it to a building within sight of the I-80 freeway. In the past, it was described at one of the biggest private Chevy collections in America, with hundreds of people apparently visiting the Nebraska museum each week.
These days, the Hollertz family is looking to downsize, calling on the BigIron auction house to assist in selling the collection. Some of Chevyland’s crown jewels include a 1969 Corvette convertible with less than 7,000 miles; a ’65 Impala that was used as a getaway car in a bank robbery; and a too-cool ’58 Impala.

Auction company Big Iron is selling several dozen cars and trucks through a massive, no-reserve online auction. Located in Elm Creek, a small town about 150 miles west of Lincoln in rural Nebraska, the Chevyland museum once welcomed about 100 visitors per day, according to the Omaha World-Herald.
