Montana DOC agrees to move inmates out of Cascade County jail

After a number of fights over the last year about Department of Corrections (DOC) inmates housed at the Great Falls Regional Prison (GFRP), Cascade County Sheriff Jesse Slaughter issued a release Friday stating the DOC has agreed to pull its inmates out of the facility by June 30. The move means the entire Cascade County Detention Center (CCDC) will be housing only pre-trial inmates. Since it was designed in 1998, the GFRP side of the facility has been reserved for inmates who have been sentenced and are serving their time. CCDC was designed to hold 372 people. According to Friday s jail roster, there are currently 454 inmates housed there.

Montana Legislature Again Postpones Floor Sessions, No Additional COVID-19 Cases As Of Friday

Yellowstone Public Radio Montana lawmakers postponed floor sessions Apr. 16, 2021 to allow time for contact tracing after a lobbyist tested positive for COVID-19 the day prior. The Montana Legislature will again not hold floor sessions Monday, which will not count as an official legislative day, after a lobbyist tested positive for COVID-19 last Thursday. Senate GOP spokesperson Kyle Schmauch said late Friday eighteen people, including nine legislators, seven staff and two others, had received negative results through the Legislature’s testing program, and that contact tracing is ongoing. Committees Monday may meet virtually and accept remote comment only. Schmuach says legislators will participate virtually unless they have “internet issues, tech problems, or other extenuating circumstances.”
