I recently traveled down Turners Falls Road in Montague and was shocked to see hundreds of mature trees have been cut to the ground up and down the 4-mile stretch from Montague center all the way to the public safety station in Turners.

MONTAGUE Five new trees, one in each village, will be planted Friday and Saturday in public ceremonies to celebrate Arbor Day as part of what the Tree Advisory Committee hopes is a growing tradition.
Arbor Day is typically recognized on the last Friday of April, said David Detmold, chair of the Montague Tree Advisory Committee. This year and in recent years it was officially recognized by the Montague Selectboard.
