Farewell from James: Why I will always love the Channel Islands | Channel

James Webster in the ITV Channel TV studio Credit: ITV News Channel TV I’ve had a date written in my calendar for the last six months. Whenever I have seen the reminder getting closer I’ve had to stop myself thinking about it too hard. Now I have no choice. As I write this note it is one minute past midnight on Friday 7 May 2021 and the alert has just flashed up on my phone. Just typing those words gives me a lump in my throat because quite simply it brings to an end the best two and a half years of my career. I have loved every single bit of it and in so many ways I don’t want it to end.

How Jersey is the closest thing we have to an overseas holiday

My prospective destination teased the only legal chance of sun, sea and sand outside of Britain. There would be no concern of self-catering gazumping, no assault course of gridlocked motorways and no signs urging tourists to stay away. Jersey’s decision to reopen to UK tourists this week proffered a glint of excitement amid the unappealing prospects of “booked-up Britain” and an uncertain quarantine-free foreign travel list, which still needs to replace the ban on holidays abroad.
