hold out as a monster system continues marching east. morgan, we know residents there in grapevine are still cleaning up from all the damage, but are they expecting a further threat there? reporter: yeah, lester, potentially the good news is that north texas should be out of the woods tonight, but the bad news is that this massive system as it continues to march on could hold severe weather threats for the gulf coast and the southeast, and of particular concern, nighttime tornadoes, which numbers show can be more than twice as deadly. lester. morgan chesky, thank you for that. this dangerous weather will affect tens of millions around the country throughout the week. dylan dreyer is tracking it. dylan, what s the forecast? lester, there s a lot going on with this whole system and here we have the severe threat with tornado warnings and continued watches in effect as this moves to the east overnight. we will continue with the threat of more tornadoes and torrential downpour, n
even points more inland, like lafayette and baton rouge, where we are, some 70 miles from the coast, well, those are in harm s way as well, with rain and wind, the primary threats as people spend their saturday boarding up. this is a very dangerous storm, and we will and will possibly bring life-threatening impacts. it s a powerful storm. please take this seriously and use this time to prepare. operations also underway in neighboring alabama and in mississippi. boats were pulled from the water. people moving to higher ground because although louisiana is forecasted to take a direct hit, ida does stretch for some 300 miles, if you can imagine that, when you see the satellite imagery, jon, a monster system, so its impacts will be widespread.
