May 10, 2021 The 2021 AMA Supercross Championship closed out the season in the 250SX class with the Dave Coombs Sr. 250SX East/West Showdown in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing 250 Team riders Colt Nichols in the East division and Justin Cooper in the West division were both able to secure their first-ever championship wins on the YZ250F. This is the first time a Yamaha team has won both the East and West titles in a single season and it also marks four straight championship titles for Yamaha in the 250SX West division, following Aaron Plessinger in 2018 and Dylan Ferrandis in 2019 and 2020.

Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing’s Malcolm Stewart and Aaron Plessinger finished sixth and seventh, respectively, at Round 3 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross 450SX Championship in Houston, Texas. Their rookie teammate Dylan Ferrandis was also in a solid top-10 position, but ultimately crossed the line 12th after a late-race crash.
Although Saturday’s track at the NRG Stadium was an all-new layout, it still presented some challenges. Stewart struggled a bit in practice but had a great Heat race, finishing third. He got a good start in Main Event behind Plessinger and then advanced to fourth five laps later. The Florida rider held the position for a few laps before being passed by a couple of riders. With a top-five finish in sight, Stewart kept pushing but ultimately had to settle for sixth.

Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing’s Aaron Plessinger finished fifth last night at the second round in Indianapolis, Round 5 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship; his best finish so far this season. Teammates Dylan Ferrandis and Malcolm Stewart rebounded from a crash in the Main Event to finish ninth and 10th respectively.
Although Plessinger didn’t get the result he was looking for earlier in the day, a flying start in second delivered a solid top-five position at the end of the first lap. The 2018 250SX West Champion kept putting in the laps and worked his way back into fourth with eight laps to go, but ultimately was passed on the final lap. Plessinger’s fifth-place effort, scored just two hours away from his hometown of Hamilton, Ohio, moves him into the top 10 of the point standings.
