On Friday, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services suggested remote learning for high school students and implored residents to forgo indoor at restaurants. Offered as recommendations rather than regulations, they mark a departure from a strategy centered around mandates that previously required remote learning and restricted businesses such as restaurants and bars.  As of Saturday morning, several Monroe County schools have announced plans to welcome students into classrooms after spring break Monday, with some exceptions.  In response to a surge in positive COVID-19 cases and subsequent quarantines, Monroe Public Schools announced last month students would remain on remote learning through April 16. The decision came after the district moved four schools to remote learning.
