Woman escapes from large house fire in Monroe County

MONROE COUNTY, Ga. - A woman was able to escape a house fire in Monroe County Sunday morning.
According to Monroe County Emergency Services, the fire broke out at a home located on Zellner Road.
The woman, who was the only person inside of the house at the time of the blaze, escaped from a side window. Fire crews said there was zero visibility.
The woman told fire officials none of the smoke alarms inside the home were working.
Investigators are working to learn what caused the fire.

MONROE COUNTY, Ga. Monroe County Emergency Services responded to a house fire Sunday morning on Zellner Road.
According to a Facebook post, the woman inside escaped out a window. She was sleeping with her door closed, which gave her needed seconds to escape.
The post says the woman couldn t see or breathe, and that she didn t have working smoke alarms.
Crews from Stations 1, 2 and 12 responded along with Pumper One, which aids in areas with few or no hydrants.
Monroe County Emergency Services says you should often check to make sure you have working smoke alarms in all sleeping and living areas.

MONROE COUNTY, Ga. Monroe County firefighters fought 19 building fires in 2020, and now county emergency services have launched a new campaign in hopes of cutting that number. It s called Operation S.A.F.E.
Monroe County EMS life safety instructor, Christina Bramlett, says they re installing 10-year smoke alarms in the homes of Monroe County s most vulnerable citizens for free.
