State of Emergency declared for Monroe County s COVID-19 situation
Monroe County officials have taken the unusual step of declaring a Local State of Emergency in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This declaration pertains to public meetings; and is one of several steps that local authorities have taken in recent days to respond to an increase in COVID-19 cases.
The order was signed by Mark Brant, chairman of the Monroe County Board of Commissioners; and issued Wednesday by Monroe County Emergency Management division.
Mark A. Hammond, director of the county’s Emergency Management Division, said the declaration was issued to allow all government bodies in the county to continue meeting virtually if they want. Councils and boards also have the option of meeting in person, but must adhere to the limit of 25 people due to COVID-19 restrictions imposed by federal and state authorities.
