The monkeypox outbreak continues to be a global health emergency, which is the highest level of alert as per the World Health Organization (WHO). There have been nearly 80,000 cases so far recorded across 106 countries, with 36 deaths.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in its recent study said that genome sequences from India covering 90-99 per cent genome were found to be belonging to A.2 Lineage of clade IIb.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), a total of 52,997 people have been infected with the monkeypox virus. Of the cases registered in the last four weeks, 70.7 per cent came from the US and 28.3 per cent from Europe.
