nbc s kristen dahlgren joins me outside of the building in lower manhattan. good saturday morning to you. let s get more on the conditions of his confinement, one of the most restrictive we ve seen. bernie madoff s house arrest, comparisons have been made to that. reporter: yeah. good morning, alex. because of what dominique strauss-kahn is accused of and also fears by the prosecution he would be a flight risk, the judge did set very stringent restrictions on his release. there was a $1 million cash bail, also a $5 million insurance bond that he had to pay. and now ihe s staying here, instead of rikers island, in lower manhattan, waking up here this morning. but, again, under very tight security. he has a monitoring bracelet on his ankle. this is actually an apartment that s used by the security company that will be guarding him. so there is an armed guard that s going to be watching, at least one at all times.
is everything, right, came down during this bail hearing. the defense announced he s just been indicted. the defense is arguing to the judge, look, he wasn t trying to skip town after this alleged encounter. instead, he had bought his ticket days and days earlier. he had not just bought his ticket and tried to leave. they re also saying that he will live with his wife who has rented a an apartment in new york city and i just got this, they are proposing he live in an apartment monitored by cameras, a monitoring bracelet, and an armed guard. the d.a. is arguing this defendant has a propensity for criminal conduct speaking about all the other alleged cases back in france, including the woman in 2002 who says he sexually attacked her. we re still await, martin, word on whether bail will be granted to him or not or whether he s heading back to rikers. i note that the prosecutor said the proof is substantial and it s continuing to grow
she ll be back in court on october 22nd for her actual probation violation hearing. on that date, the judge could decide to send her back to jail or back to rehab. we ll have to see what happens, alex. so kristen, during this time between now and october 22nd, can she just run around, do what she wants to or are there restrictions imposed? there are definitely restrictions imposed upon her. she has to wear an xalcohol monitoring bracelet. she cannot consume any controlled substances, and she can t be in the presence any of controlled substances. that means she s not allowed to go to bars or clubs. and she will be subject to random monitoring of this. she ll be tested for all of this. but again, she was just under similar orders and failed a recent drug test. so we ll have to wait and see what happens here. she is definitely going to be monitored very closely during the next month. alex? nbc s kristen welker, thank you. 25 minutes, in and out and
