Elected leaders from seven Acadiana parishes are pushing the state Legislature and Gov. John Bel Edwards to use millions in federal stimulus funds on local fiber internet infrastructure.
In a letter sent to Edwards and legislative leaders Friday, parish presidents and police jury leaders from Acadiana advocated for spending on fiber to the home infrastructure to provide internet speeds of 100 Mbps across the region, which has both the best and worst available service in America, the letter reads. Our towns deserve the investment of high-speed internet that will bring real hope throughout Acadiana and Louisiana. We must be forward thinking about our true needs of today and future needs of tomorrow.

St. Martin and
Scott thanks to a $3.1 million federal grant, officials announced Thursday.
The grant will help LUS establish fiber connections to businesses along the
U.S. 90 corridor in those areas to help them transition to the current economy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The grant was facilitated through the
Acadiana Planning Commission. Work on the project is expected to begin later this spring and take 18-24 months to complete, officials said.

LUS Fiber – Lafayette, Louisiana’s fiber system, today received a $3.1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) to develop and build broadband infrastructure in rural southwest Louisiana, in conjunction with the Acadiana Planning Commission (APC).
The funds will be used to expand the company’s all-fiber network through additional portions of Lafayette Parish, St. Martin Parish, and Iberia Parish beginning later this year, with planned completion by the end of 2023.
