At the end of March, the EU project Urban Eco Islands was officially completed on the island of Aegna, which developed a number of environmentally friendly solutions.
The international project lasted for two years, from April 2019 to March 2021, and developed sustainable tourism solutions and infrastructure on the islands of Aegna and Vasikkasaari, Finland.
A new administrative map has been drawn up for Aegna, integrating the island s hiking trails and military heritage sites. The map is installed in four places on the island, and it, as well as the e-magazine introducing the island, can be found on the updated website www.tallinn.ee/aegna/.
On Saturday, people interested in construction cities out of snow gathered in Kuressaare, Saaremaa, to construct a viking themed city out of snow in the courtyard of Kuressaare Castle.
The main topic of Kuressaare s snow city this year is vikings, because 2021 has been dubbed the year of the viking in Saaremaa. At the same time, constructors were allowed to choose another topic, if they so chose.
The construction of a snow city in Tallinn also kicks off
On Sunday, the construction of a snow city on the Towers Square (Tornide Väljak) in the Tallinn Old Town began. Preparations for the construction of a snow city have already gone on for a few days and now, architect Andreas Hinojosa s desigend sculptures will begin to take shape. Since Saturday morning, a spruce labyrinth in the shape of a cornflower - Estonia s national flower - has decorated the Town Hall Square (Raekoja plats) of Tallinn. It is a perfect example of recycling: in the middle of the labyrinth stands our city s representative Christmas tree with its golden decorations removed. It is surrounded by spruce groves that decorated the Town Hall Square, in addition to smaller trees from Old Town streets. The hundreds of Christmas spruces make up a very effectively formed cornflower-shaped labyrinth, where visitors today (on Saturday - ed) could also find cornflower-shaped treats, said Kesklinn district mayor Monika Haukanõmm.
All districts will have their own fireworks display except Nõmme and Kristiine, said Tallinn Mayor Mihhail Kõlvart.
Kõlvart called on the people of Tallinn not to organize fireworks displays in private as they also scare animals. We re trying to protect each other and our smaller friends, he said.
The City Center s (Kesklinn) display will be held near Russalka and last for just oer seven minutes. But people are advised not to gather in a group close to the display and to watch from different places. As they can be observed practically from the heart of the city to Pirita, people do not have to gather in a small area. The chosen place is safe in many ways, said Monika Haukanõmm, City Center elder.
