The Energy Community is an international organisation focused on energy cooperation that brings together the EU and several neighbouring countries. It was born with the Treaty establishing the Energy Community, signed in October 2005 in Athens, Greece and in force since July 2006.
Nuclear policy has been present from the very beginning of the European Union. The six founding nations signed the Treaty on the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom Treaty) in 1957, which is one of the three founding treaties establishing the EU.
