Levine has represented the district, which encompasses Morningside Heights, West Harlem, Washington Heights, and a section of the Upper West Side, since 2014. The New York City Council is the city’s legislative body and has 51 members, each of whom represents a district of the city. Council members are elected for a four-year term, renewable only once. Beyond their legislative powers, they are responsible for approving the city’s budget, and they focus much of their attention on land use.

Just over one month later, with the vaccine rollout underway, residents claim that the city has not made good on that pledge, as Manhattan Community Board 9 still does not have a single vaccination site.
