Whether they’re attached to Fort Rucker in Alabama or Ramstein Air Base in Germany, members of the U.S. military and their families need access to cash. Just like anybody else, they must put a roof over their heads, buy groceries and pay bills. Yet banking across the country or around the world can be almost as challenging as coping with the emotions of a deployment that separates a family by 5,000 miles.

1. Pick a Big Player
While you may want to stick with the small bank in your hometown, that relationship may not serve you well if you’re bouncing around from one place to another during your family’s military journey. Therefore, experts suggest doing business with a bank or credit union that maintains at least a national presence.
