The Queensland government is refusing to drop its requirement that visitors produce a negative PCR test 72 hours prior to arriving in the state, despite the rule being blamed for long delays.
“But I put a proposal to the federal government as to whether or not we could expand the GP network, which to me makes sense,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
“The GPS are now doing [flu] immunisation and perhaps - when there is more supply - the federal government can look to expand that GP network,” she said.
“The federal government said they would look at that idea and report back to national cabinet.”
Queensland’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout was being delivered largely by state government hospitals and health networks, but GPs were beginning to play an expanding role.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said she had asked federal health planners to expand the COVID-19 vaccination network.
