PEORIA The man who allegedly killed a North Valley woman last month struck and strangled her in a brutal and heinous manner, indicative of wanton cruelty.
Those words means Christopher J. Sanders, if convicted of the two counts of first-degree murder for the death of Mona Ellison, faces up to 100 years behind bars. Normally first-degree murder carries a maximum term of 60 years behind bars.
A Peoria County grand jury indicted Sanders, 42, of 2905 NE Adams St., in connection with Ellison s death on Jan. 20.
Police have continued to release few details about the homicide, which was the city s third of the year.
