Junta troops fired three rounds of heavy artillery at Mai Ja Yang, a town on the Chinese border in a long-term Kachin Independence Organisation (KIO) controlled area.
The dry season will bring more junta airstrikes and atrocities but its ground forces will continue to suffer heavy losses, according to rebel leaders and defectors.
The junta has suffered at least 80 casualties in the past 10 days as it attempts to dislodge KIA and PDF fighters from Lung Ja Bum hill in Momauk Township, locals say.
