Thanks to Mayor Joe Petty and School Committee members Molly McCullough, Laura Clancy, Tracy Novick and Jack Foley for realizing that our community’s children need to be taught about rights, responsibility and respect in our ever changing world.
Comprehensive sex education that teaches the three Rs as opposed to fear is essential for our growing community to be healthy.

WORCESTER After hours of debate and years of trying to get to this point the School Committee on Thursday voted to implement a district-wide comprehensive sex education curriculum.
In a 5-2 vote, the full committee approved a prior 2-1 vote by its Standing Committee on Teaching, Learning and Student Supports to go with a model called Rights, Respect, Responsibility.
RRR was one of two curricula put forward by a panel of health educators earlier this year.
Mayor Joseph Petty, the chairman, and members Molly McCullough, Laura Clancey, Tracy O’Connell Novick, and Jack Foley voted for the motion; Dianna Biancheria and John Monfredo were opposed.
WORCESTER – After a lengthy public hearing Monday evening – and a much, much longer citywide debate on the topic – a school standing committee voted to adopt a comprehensive sex education curriculum for the middle and high school levels.
In a 2-1 vote, the Standing Committee on Teaching, Learning and Student Supports OK’d member Jack Foley’s motion to implement a program called Rights, Respect and Responsibility – one of two sex education programs recommended by the district – for the 2021-22 school year. Foley and committee chairwoman Molly McCullough were in favor of the move; vice chairman John Monfredo opposed.
Monfredo had made his own motion for the district to create its own curriculum, which was also recommended by the district last month. But that motion failed, 2-1, with Monfredo casting the only vote in favor.
