Commemorating the opening of the Ulster Parliament Buildings
Today John is sharing some of the exhibits here marking the ongoing NI 100 centenary programme, which the whole of the UK’s postal service has been celebrating.
During April and May, here and in England, Wales and Scotland, there has been a special hand-stamp (the inked postmark on envelopes, sometimes called ‘franking’) marking the centenary with the slogan ‘Our Story in the Making - Northern Ireland Beyond 100’.
Along with the commemorative post-mark, the postage stamps and cards in the centenary display mostly depict “local places, people and events” John explained.
Little or nothing has been omitted from the vast range of local themes and topics included.
Minister visits Ballina farm with Moil cattle Published: Monday, 31 May 2021 14:16
Minister of State Joe O’Brien visited a farm with Moil cattle outside Ballina this morning.
It was among a number of stops the Minister of State at the dept of Rural and Community Development made while in Mayo today.
Moil cattle have a very low environmental impact and are used in many instances in specialised conservation grazing projects. They have a long history as a dual purpose hardy animal, producing both high quality beef and milk and a low input animal well adapted to producing beef in extensive and conservation systems. The Moil can graze on a wide variety of plants including rushes, ivy, sedge and heather. Their grazing helps to encourage the growth of a wide range of plants and flora.
The sale will form part of Carlisle-based H&H’s annual Spring Pedigree Bull sales. Conducted on behalf of the Irish Moiled Cattle Society, the online timed auction sees 16 bulls and nine females of this native breed put forward for auction. With classes for bulls under one year, one to two years, two years and over, and females under a year, maiden heifers not in calf, in-calf heifers/cows. All of the livestock entered for this sale have been DNA tested and consigners include – Glassdrummond, Lisnolan, Ballylinney, Rossighn, Beltany, Inis Fraoigh, Beechmount, Curraghnakeely, Ravelglen, Rathcarn Meenacraig and Ballyreagh pedigree Irish Moiled herds.
