What’s the drainage situation, high court asks CBC and DHA July 7, 2021 The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday directed the Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) and the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) to submit complete details with regard to the assignment of work relating to storm water drainage in their respective jurisdictions. The direction came on a contempt-of-court application filed by DHA residents against the CBC’s chief executive officer, chief engineer and other officials for not complying with the court’s orders about submitting details relating to storm water drainage in their neighbourhood. DHA and CBC residents had filed a petition with regard to effective infrastructure for sewerage and drainage system, and compensation for damages to lives and properties suffered by the city’s people during last year’s monsoon rains.

SHC tells CBC, DHA to explain measures to deal with rainfall Karachi May 25, 2021 The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday expressed its dissatisfaction at the performance of civic agencies to deal with rainfall in the city and directed the Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) and Defence Housing Authority (DHA) to file detailed reports on efforts being made for effective drainage of rainwater in their respective areas during monsoon rains. Hearing a petition with regard to effective infrastructure for sewerage and drainage system, and compensation for life and damages to property suffered by the citizens of Karachi during the last year rainfall, a division bench of the SHC headed by Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi observed that the condition of the CBC and DHA areas was worse than other parts of the city during the last year’s monsoon rains.

Zoo administration told to reply to plea seeking natural habitat for animals Karachi February 11, 2021 The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday issued notices to the provincial law officer, the Karachi Zoological Gardens’ administration and others on a petition seeking natural habitat for the animals housed at the city’s zoo. S Yahya Ahmed of a non-governmental organisation said in his petition that the zoological gardens’ administration is primarily responsible for causing a significant damage to the animals housed at the zoo. Ahmed said that there have been reports of deaths and illnesses of animals at the zoo but the administration is reluctant to disclose the health conditions of the animals.
