Oldham care leavers are set to benefit – thanks to a Chadderton firm’s kind donations. Oldham after care service are currently working with 200 young people aged between 18-25.  It can be really challenging for any young person living alone, but for some care leavers the challenges of independent living can come at a very early stage in their adult lives. Chadderton firm Ultimate Products have made things a little bit easier with the donation of thousands of pounds worth of key household items - from suitcases to ironing boards, from pots and pans to kettles. Ultimate Products are a global retail firm based in Chadderton with strong working relationships with 300 retailers in 38 countries.

Oldham Lifelong Learning gives tech boost to learners Date published: 10 February 2021 Runa Lyla is among the first 60 Oldham Lifelong Learning students to have benefitted from the scheme. Oldham Lifelong Learning is providing tablets and internet access bundles to support adult learners who are struggling to access courses online.  Runa Lyla is among the first 60 Oldham Lifelong Learning students to have benefitted from the scheme.   She said: “I’m very excited to loan a Samsung tablet. I’m on a Level 2 Functional English course and use it to do my work on.   “I only had my phone for remote learning and my four young children have also needed to use it for home learning during lockdown - making it difficult to complete my work on time.

Young unemployed people in Oldham given a jobs boost Date published: 28 January 2021 Councillor Mohon Ali Oldham Council has agreed to support a national scheme that will aim to get more than 1,500 young people aged 16-24 into work in Oldham over the next 12 months. The council has agreed to both provide 50 new job placements within its own organization and also to help other Oldham businesses provide hundreds of similar job placements as part of The Government’s £2billion Kickstart scheme. The job creation scheme provides funding to create new job placements for 16 to 24 year olds on Universal Credit who are at risk of long term unemployment. Employers of all sizes can apply for funding which covers 100% of the National Minimum Wage for 25 hours per week for a total of 6 months.
