After Tinubu's suspension of AbdulRasheed Bawa, Mohammed Umar Abba has emerged as the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
A Nigerian economist, Odilim Enwegbara has dragged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to court for claiming ownership of “Eagle Eye”, an online application for reporting crime. Abdulrasheed Bawa, EFCC chairman had during the launch of the app in 2021 claimed it was conceived and created by the staff members of the commission. He had said the initiative was a demonstration of his pledge to manage an agency that was technology-driven.

He also reiterated his vows that all stolen Nigeria’s wealth outside the country would be repatriated for the better of the country, saying the time had come for a paradigm shift in the agency and nation’s anti-corruption war.
“We are going to digitalise our processes, and we are going to create a new full-pledged directorate of intelligence to enable us to gather intelligence so that we will be proactive in our fight against economic and financial crimes; and by so doing, we will also provide the government with necessary quality advice that will lead to good governance,” he said.

Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, yesterday officially assumed duties with a pledge to steer the organisation towards proactive and intelligence-led investigation.
Bawa, who took over the reins of office at the headquarters of the commission in Abuja, said he would create a full-fledged directorate of intelligence that would spearhead intelligence gathering which would ensure proactive response in the fight against corruption.
According to him, “we are going to digitalise our processes and we are going to create a new full-pledged directorate of intelligence to enable us gather intelligence so that we will be proactive in our fight against economic and financial crimes and by so doing we will also provide the government with necessary quality advice that will lead to good governance.”
