The training of 1,056 community police constables for Kwara State commenced on Friday.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony of the training, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, said the success of community policing rests on the society fully backing it.
He asserted that the police was often a reflection of the society it serves.
Governor Abdulrazaq commended security agencies for their hard work which has continued to keep Kwara mostly safe.
He noted that the recent US travel advisory which exempted Kwara from the list of high-security risk states in the country testifies to the exceptional efforts of the police and other security agencies in the state to protect lives and properties.

A popular businessman was on Wednesday kidnapped by gunmen who attacked him and his aides in Oke-Onigbin, Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The man, popularly known as Alaga Olayemi, was ambushed by seven gunmen in the evening while returning home from his maize farm in the town.
According to sources in the community, Mr Olayemi was with two aides who escaped the attack with injuries.
Confirming the report, the spokesperson of the police in Kwara, Ajayi Okasanmi, said the police were making efforts to rescue the businessman.
“One Alhaji Alaga Olayemi was reportedly kidnapped in his farm at Oke-Onigbin by seven unknown gunmen, intensive effort to rescue him has been activated by the Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Lawal Bagega,” he told our correspondent on Friday.

Alhaji Alaga Olayemi, the farmer, businessman who was abducted by seven unidentified gunmen at Oke-Onigbin in Kwara state on Wednesday, has been rescued.
A statement by the spokesman of the state police command, Mr Okasanmi Ajayi, announced in Ilorin on Friday.
It said “a painstaking search and rescue mission by the state Police Commissioner, Mohammed Lawal Bagega, conducted within Oke-Onigbin, Iloffa, Ekiti and Eruku areas by the police and other members of the security community in the state, forced the abductors to abandon their victim at Oyogbo village.
“Under intense security pressure, it became obvious they could not escape arrest, hence they abandoned their victim.

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested the leader of a kidnap gang, Kazeem Mohammed and three other gang members.
They were arrested over the alleged kidnap and killing of one Olokose Oluwasola Ojo in Patigi, Patigi Local Government Area of the state.
According to the spokesman of the command, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, in a statement in Ilorin on Wednesday, the gang leader of Patigi, collected the sum of N160,000 from one Olokose Oluwasola Ojo, now deceased on the guise of helping him buy a cow to be used on the deceased wedding scheduled to hold between March 12th and 13th, 2021.
