The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, stressed on Thursday the important role of the GCC-US strategic partnership in serving common interests and supporting the security and stability of the region. The GCC chief's remarks came during his meeting with the US Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Michael Alan Ratney, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat in Riyadh.
Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah and his Iraqi counterpart, Fuad Mohamad Hussein, chaired the fourth meeting of the Saudi-Iraqi Political, Security and Military Committee in Jeddah as part of the work of the Saudi-Iraqi Coordination Council. The two sides discussed deeply rooted Saudi-Iraqi relations and the means to enhance them in all fields. They also discussed ways to strengthen coordination between the two countries in the political, security, and military fields.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad arrived in the Saudi city of Jeddah on Thursday to attend the Arab League summit the following day. At King Abdulaziz International Airport, he was received by Prince Badr bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, the Deputy Governor of Makkah Region, Arab League’s Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and a number of civil and military senior officials.
The ministerial meetings of the Arab Economic and Social Council kicked off on Monday in Jeddah. Speaking on behalf of Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Ambassador Hossam Zaki said that the meetings were taking place “amid positive developments in the Arab region.” Syrian participation after a 12-year absence A Syrian delegation, headed by Minister of Economy and Trade Mohammad Samer Khalil, participated in the meeting, following a decision to accept Syria’s return to the Arab League after 12 years of isolation.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry expressed on Tuesday the Kingdom’s condemnation of the storming of Jordan’s embassy in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum. It also condemned the storming of the residence of the head of the military office in the Kuwaiti embassy in Khartoum. The Kingdom rejects all forms of violence against diplomatic missions, stressed the ministry.
