KABUL (Pajhwok): The administrative board members of the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) were reelected to their previous positions in a new voting, the commission said on Sunday.
A statement from IECC received by Pajhwok Afghan News said that administrative board members of the commission remained on their previous positions, a decision made during a meeting attended by majority of the office members on Saturday.
Based on article 29 of the election and the admin board rules, the vote for head, deputy head and secretary of the commission was held on Saturday.
The IECC resolution letter received by Pajhwok shows that Zahra Bayan Shinwari has been reelected as head, Mulavi Din Mohammad Azimi as deputy head and Mohammad Qasim Elyasi as secretary of the commission.
IEC, IECC Call to Amend Afghan Election Law
Afghanistan’s electoral institutions the Independent Election Commission (IEC) and the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) on Wednesday briefed Afghan political parties and members of civil society institutions about draft amendments to the country’s electoral system.
The two commissions said they hope the contents in the draft amendments will further strengthen the Afghan electoral system and give it more credibility in future elections.
In the draft plan, the electoral bodies have recommended the following for future elections:
• The introduction of an electronic voting system
• A limit to the number of candidates
