Cop suspended for beating Masjid Imam in UP’s Gorakhpur By PTI|   Posted by Mansoor  |   Updated: 12th May 2021 7:39 pm IST Gorakhpur: A police post in-charge was suspended for allegedly beating up an Imam while trying to disperse people after the completion of the namaz at a mosque here, officials said on Wednesday. The accused official, Arjun Singh, post in-charge of Pandey Hata area that falls under the Rajghat police station, was trying to disperse the people, in view of COVID 19-norms against social gathering, after they were done offering their namaz at Nai Masjid around 3.30 pm on Tuesday, they said.

Four casualties were reported in Rawalpindi. During the last 24 hours, 5,344 tests were conducted in the capital which found virus in 549 people and the positivity was 10.2pc whereas on Wednesday 375 cases were reported in the city against 4,388 tests with an 8.5pc positivity rate. According to officials of the district administration, the number of hospitals treating Covid-19 patients has also increased. The administration has asked hospitals to increase the number of beds and ventilators as so far, there are 836 beds allocated to virus patients at 16 hospitals and 119 ventilators at 13 hospitals. The occupancy rate of beds is 64.5pc whereas the occupancy rate of ventilators in the capital is 57.1pc.

March 8, 2021 PANJWAI, Afghanistan For a brief moment in a small patch of southern Afghanistan, the war has stopped. After weeks of negotiations, the mayor of Panjwai, a sizable district in the strategically important Kandahar Province, said a 10-day cease-fire would begin Sunday morning. There was no formal announcement or major decree, nor was there any involvement from the international community. Instead, the cease-fire in Panjwai was the culmination of a grass-roots movement led by farmers and townspeople exhausted after more than 40 years of war and the recent escalation of fighting in their district. Their success in brokering the cease-fire offered a clear example of how local communities, driven by despair, have engineered their own ways to stop the fighting even if it is just for a few hours as Afghan and Taliban negotiators continue to struggle to find a way forward during peace talks in Qatar.
