Chandigarh, April 5 : Three labourers were killed and four were still trapped on Monday when an unauthorized under-construction portion of a two-storeyed auto manufacturing factory in Punjab s Ludhiana town collapsed, police said.
Thirty seven labourers were rescued in a joint operation by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the local administration.
The building is located in a densely populated locality in Mukand Nagar on Daba Road.
Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma told the media that the lintel on the third floor collapsed when the factory owner was carrying out illegal construction.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s recent remarks on Twitter saying “no US servicemen have been killed in Afghanistan” sparked a backlash from politicians in the Afghan government.
As no US servicemen were killed in the last year, thousands of civilians and Afghan security members were killed in the violence during 2020.
Afghan Senate Speaker Fazl Hadi Muslimyar said, “Besides the US, I congratulate the victory of the Taliban as well,” saying that “meanwhile, I tell the Taliban ‘congratulations to you, you have killed the sons of this soil, civil society activists and journalists who are reflecting the pains of the people”, Tolonews quoted.

Head of Sada-e-Ghor Radio, Journalist and civil society activist, Bismillah Adil Aimaq was killed in unknown gunmen attack in Feroz Koh city, the central part of Ghor province, local confirmed to media.
Mohammad Aref Abir, a spokesman to Ghor governor, said that Adil was killed in an attack by unknown armed men, in Dara-e-Taimoor village on the outskirts of the city.
Adil is among many journalists like Rahmatullah Nikzad, Yama Siawash, Elyas Dae, Malala Maiwand, and Fardin Amini were killed in different incidents since November 2020.
Kabul: 3 Killed in Targeted Attacks in Past 24 Hours
At least three people were killed in a fresh spate of targeted killings in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul over the past 24 hours.
The first incident took the life of security guard of Ahmad Malikzada, the security guard in charge of Bagrami district in PD15 when an IED blast targeted his vehicle.
Malikzada and another guard were wounded.
Meanwhile, in Paghman district in the western part of Kabul, unknown armed men shot and killed a police officer named Haji Ramazan. He was on his way to work when gunmen attacked him.
“Everyday there is an IED blast, there are assassinations, the security situation is quite fragile,” said Baryalai Naseri, a resident in Kabul.
