Charges framed against 8 in MC College rape case
A Sylhet court has moved to open trial proceedings against eight persons, including Chhatra League leader Saifur, after framing charges against them in a case filed over the gang-rape of a woman at MC College.
Judge of Sylhet Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Md Mohitul Islam framed the charges on Sunday.
Earlier on January 12, the court fixed January 17 for hearing on charge framing in the case.
Investigation officer of the case Indranil Bhattacharya submitted the chargesheet before the court of Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Abul Kashem on December 3.
According to police, they found the direct involvement of six people in the rape while two abetted in the crime.

A Sylhet court yesterday framed charges against all eight accused of a case filed over the gang rape of a woman at Murari Chand (MC) College hostel on September 25 last year.
Sylhet Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Md Mohitul Haque framed charges against the eight Chhatra League activists, said Rashida Syda Khanom, public prosecutor of the tribunal.
The trial of the case will start on January 24 with recording testimonies of witnesses, the prosecutor said, adding that there are 52 witnesses in the case.
Rape at MC College hostel: hearing on charge sheet deferred again

A tribunal in Sylhet today again deferred the hearing on charge sheet of a case filed for gang-rape at Murari Chand College hostel in Sylhet on September 25 last year.
Sylhet Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Md Mohitul Haque passed the order this morning and set January 12 to decide whether it will accept the charges or not, our Sylhet correspondent reports.
Advocate Shahiduzzaman Chowdhury, lawyer of the plaintiff, said, The complainant has not received certified copy of the charge sheet and urged the court to allow more time to review it. Based on the appeal, the court has deferred the hearing.
