UN Secretary-General Special Envoy for Libya and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Ján Kubiš arrived yesterday in Tripoli, in his first visit to Libya after his appointment, to meet with Libyan officials and stakeholders in different parts of the country. Special Envoy Kubiš, accompanied by Assistant Secretary-General (ASG) and UNSMIL Coordinator Raisedon Zenenga and ASG/Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Libya Georgette Gagnon, met today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Mohamed Siyala, Deputy President of the Presidency Council (PC) Ahmed Mitig and PC member Abdulsalam Kajman, who congratulated him on his appointment and offered full support to the Special Envoy in his mission as well as to the work of the United Nations.

Malta offers Libya the 'best weapon'

Malta has offered Libya assistance in the education sector, in what Foreign Minister Evarist Bartolo equated as offering the North African country the best possible weapon.  Bartolo and Education Minister Justyne Caruana visited Tripoli on Monday and met Deputy Prime Minister Ahmed Maiteeq, Foreign Minister Mohamed Siyala and Education Minister Mohammed Ammari. They offered cooperation from the University of Malta and from Mcast in the teaching of English as well as educational programmes on personal skills and the resolution of problems and disputes without violence, according to an official statement. Bartolo said the Maltese ministers had gone to Libya with the best weapon in hand, that of education.

On Monday, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Evarist Bartolo and Minister for Education Justyne Caruana visited Tripoli for meetings with Libyan Education Minister Othman Abdul, Foreign Minister Mohamed Siyala, and Deputy Prime Minister Ahmed Maiteeq, the Maltese government announced. During the visit Minister Evarist Bartolo said that through their visit, the Maltese Ministers went to Libya with the best weapon in hand, that of education. He stressed that the best weapon Libya needs for a future of peace and progress is well-educated young people to build their country, their society
