IT was not a tit for tat move when Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s supreme council responded to Umno’s decision to cut ties with the party in GE15.
Bersatu’s statement on Thursday was “tidak keras” (not hard-hitting), said Universiti Teknologi Malaysia political analyst Dr Mazlan Ali.
Bersatu, which Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin leads, met earlier in the week to discuss a letter signed by Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stating that the party’s supreme council had decided on Feb 19 not to cooperate with Bersatu in the next general election.
LETTER | Reconvene Parliament – stop democracy from being corrupted

LETTER | Democracy is being corrupted by bribing and buying the support of political frogs who are for sale. Principles are being sacrificed and the people’s mandate is being frustrated through money politics.
The foremost aim of these uncouth politicians is motivated by greed in wanting to cling to their positions and hang on to power. It is all about survival – the preservation of the self.
This has become even more blatant as the majority of the Perikatan Nasional is slowing eroding. When this majority is gone, they are finished. It would mean goodbye to the high life that they have been enjoying. The lavish lifestyle, the unbridled power to reward friends and lackeys to ensure their grip on power will all evaporate. This is something they cannot allow to take place.
‘PN will need more’
Two Pakatan MPs pledging support for PM insufficient for ruling coalition to have firm footing, say experts
PETALING
JAYA: The position of Perikatan Nasional (PN) as the coalition in power has received a boost with two MPs from the opposition Pakatan Harapan (PH) declaring their support for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
However, political analyst Prof Dr Barjoyai Bardai said the defection of the two opposition MPs “was not a big thing”.
“The main question is whether Barisan Nasional (BN) will continue to be a part of PN when Parliament reconvenes,” he said.
Apart from BN, Bersatu and PAS are also members of PN.

Kota Kinabalu: Upko President Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau
(pic) claimed a handful of senior Umno backbenchers appear to be treated like opposition MPs when it comes to allocations for their constituencies.
He said these MPs were receiving only RM100,000 instead of the RM3.7 million given to others.
Calling this an “unfair” practice, the Tuaran MP believed this was a form of punishment for these party leaders for not always seeing eye to eye with Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders.

Tangau said he empathised with Umno President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is Bagan Datuk MP, and others in his party who received this sum, an amount which is given to opposition MPs.
