West Darfur violence death toll rises to 132 : Governor
Khartoum, Apr 9 (UNI)Tribal clashes in Sudan s West Darfur state have left 132 people dead while thousands have had to flee their homes, informed the state s governor.
Addressing a press conference Mohamed al-Doma said that about 208 people were wounded during the five days of fighting between Arab and Massalit tribesmen in the town of Al Junaynah.
Violence erupted on Saturday when unknown gunmen shot at Massalit tribesmen who were coming into the town.
Deaths of two Massalit tribesmen and injurious to others led to rapid escalation in tensions.
This episode of fighting is the latest in a resurgence of violence since a peace deal was signed in October 2020 and UN peacekeepers started withdrawing.
