The upset knockout loss of SA’s lone legitimate world boxing champion Sivenathi “Special One” Nontshinga in Monte Carlo, Monaco, last weekend capped a gloomy period in national boxing.Nontshinga, from East London, was shocked by unheralded Mexican Adrian Curiel when he knocked him out in the second round of their IBF junior-flyweight title clash.
There are no signs that the drawn-out saga between former Boxing SA (BSA) CEO Moffat Qithi and the regulatory body will end any time soon. BSA announced that it would appeal against the decision of the high court to reinstate Qithi and pay him more than R3m, including interest, after firing him in 2015 for failure to disclose information on his record.
